I don't take myself (or my wine) too seriously. And this wine is kind of a message in the bottle to my drinkers to do the same. Inspired by movies or songs I like, with less skin contact, and less alcohol (not that my other wines are 15% ABV monsters, but these are even fresher and light-headed). All no sulfur, no fining, no filter, just like my other wines. The normal way, as I call it.
Some see Riesling as the royale grape. For me, it’s Sauvignon Blanc. It’s not love at first sight tbh (I used to be more of a Riesling guy too), but after seeing what the SB from our vineyards was capable of, I’ve happily handed it the crown. Quite often, wínemakers love wines from a certain variety so they plant it on their vineyards, sometimes regardless of whether it fits there or not. For me, I never loved Sauv Blanc, but we did have it growing in our vineyards (Babušák in this particular case) and realised that it was yielding some extraordinary wines. Regal, even. Reverse story (not a romantic one), but it actually makes more sense, right?
A bit of skin contact but nothing else, just fermented grapes in old smaller barrels, about 16 months in total - the vineyard has to do the work, not me. Crisp zingy wine, unmasked and humble - what you see is what you get.
